Network in the multi-tenant buildings

Wireless internet
Fast, wireless internet is available in the shared buildings at Agern Allé 5A and 24, as well as in Lyngby.

The network is called “DTU Science Park”, and for security reasons all users must log in using a username and password.

The wireless network is encrypted and segmented, so each company’s users and equipment are assigned their own virtual network (VLAN). This means that other users on the network do not have access to your data.

All VLANs are available in the relevant shared buildings – both in Lyngby and Hørsholm. This makes it easy to continue working regardless of where you are located within the area.

In addition, a separate network, “DTU Science Park Hosts”, has been established for equipment that cannot log in using a username and password. For this network, the device’s MAC address is registered in our network administration portal (each company has an administrator).

Modern equipment may often detect the “DTU Science Park Hosts” network twice, where one is marked as “enhanced”. This network is encrypted and is recommended whenever possible.

Next Generation Firewall (NGFW)
All network traffic is protected by a Fortinet Next Generation Firewall.

The NGFW includes, among other features, segmentation and user control, an Intrusion Prevention System (IPS), anti-malware protection, and URL and content filtering.

The deployed Fortinet firewalls are among the best on the market and are continuously updated with new rules to protect the DTU Science Park network.

DDoS protection
Malicious traffic from DDoS attacks is automatically filtered, ensuring that your internet connection remains stable.

Malicious traffic from DDoS attacks is automatically filtered by DTU Science Park’s internet service provider, protecting both the internet connection and your company against this widespread type of attack.

Self-service network portal
Manage user access and connect network equipment on your own network.

In the network portal, each company can manage its users’ access to the network and grant access to equipment such as printers, laboratory equipment, etc. on the company’s own virtual network (VLAN).

IP adress
Each company can, upon request, be assigned a public, static IP address.

One free IP address per company is included in our network solution in the multi-tenant buildings.

Additional IP addresses can be purchased as add-ons.

Redundant, monitored infrastructure
A redundant network with 24/7 monitoring ensures operational reliability.

The network is built with redundancy, meaning that both network cabling and equipment are duplicated. If one connection or component fails, the other automatically takes over.

All connections and components are continuously monitored to ensure high operational reliability and that any issues are handled quickly and in the best possible way.

Private corporate network
You are provided with your own closed network that can only be accessed by your users and network equipment.

The network in the shared buildings is protected against external security threats such as malware, DDoS attacks, and more by an advanced FortiGate firewall from Fortinet, which ensures that all inbound and outbound traffic is monitored and filtered.

As an additional layer of security, all companies set up on the network automatically receive their own closed corporate network (VLAN – Virtual Local Area Network) behind this firewall.

This means that the network can only be accessed by the company’s own users and network equipment.

The benefit of this setup is that each company is provided with an isolated and secure environment where data and equipment are protected against unauthorized access from other networks and tenants in the building.

Guest network
Customers and visitors can access the shared guest network.

Customers and visitors can access the shared guest network called “DTU Science Park Guest.”

Guests can connect to this network, but their devices will need to log in again after three hours if the device has been in sleep mode or has been restarted.

Network solution

From spring 2026, the Wi-Fi network will be included as part of our Community Services package for new tenants and contracts.

Our Wi-Fi network provides a fast, stable, and secure connection in DTU Science Park’s multi-tenant buildings at Agern Allé 5A and 24 in Hørsholm, as well as in Lyngby.

The network is built on a redundant fiber infrastructure connecting the linked buildings. This minimizes the risk of downtime and ensures a robust and reliable connection.

Security is handled by Fortinet FortiGate Next Generation Firewall with Unified Threat Protection. FortiGate is known for its high performance and strong protection, effectively safeguarding against network threats and attacks.

Each company is assigned its own closed corporate network with full roaming across shared areas at all locations.

Security & support

Security is a fundamental and integrated part of the solution. We use Fortinet FortiGate Next Generation Firewall (NGFW) with a Unified Threat Protection suite. FortiGate NGFW is internationally recognized for its high level of security and performance and therefore provides exceptionally strong protection of the network against threats and attacks.

These advanced security measures allow you to work safely on the network and the internet. The connection is encrypted and segmented, ensuring that users cannot access each other’s data or devices.

View the technical description of the solution.

The security measures include:

• Intrusion Prevention System (IPS)
Monitors the network for malicious or unintended activity and responds quickly with countermeasures.

Anti-malware protection (AMP)
Scans the network for malware, viruses, and trojans and blocks them effectively.

• URL filtering
A web filtering function that blocks access to websites known for harmful or malicious content.

The security parameters of the new network solution are continuously updated to protect the network against emerging threats.

A DDoS attack (Distributed Denial of Service) is a type of cyberattack where many computers or devices send enormous amounts of traffic to a server or internet connection at the same time. The purpose is to overload the connection so it becomes slow, unstable, or completely unavailable to normal users.

It is similar to thousands of people trying to enter through the same door at once — the result is that no one can get through.

DTU Science Park’s network is protected against DDoS attacks. This means that abnormal traffic is automatically detected and the attack is filtered out, allowing normal traffic to pass through so your internet connection continues to function.

A redundant network is a network solution where multiple connections and routes are established to ensure operational reliability. If an error or outage occurs at any point in the network, traffic is automatically rerouted via an alternative path.

This minimizes the risk of downtime and ensures a stable and reliable internet connection.

The network in the shared buildings – both Wi-Fi and wired connections – is protected against external security threats such as malware, DDoS attacks, and more by an advanced FortiGate firewall from Fortinet. The firewall uses, among other things, Unified Threat Protection (UTP), intrusion prevention (IPS), web filtering, and advanced traffic inspection to ensure that all inbound and outbound traffic is monitored and filtered.

As an additional layer of security, all companies set up on the network automatically receive their own closed corporate network (VLAN – Virtual Local Area Network) behind this firewall.

This means that the network can only be accessed by the company’s own users and network equipment.

The advantage of this setup is that each company has an isolated and secure environment where data and equipment are protected against unauthorized access from other networks and tenants in the building.
